Chinese-immersion Montessori · Northern Liberties

Montessori days, softly held

A calm, Mandarin-speaking Montessori home for children 18 months to 5 years. Your child learns to pour, count, care for plants, and greet friends in Chinese — at their own pace, surrounded by teachers who know them well.

Programs

Two classrooms, one gentle rhythm

Each classroom is a prepared environment: low shelves, real materials, and Mandarin spoken throughout the day. Families do not need to speak Chinese at home — children absorb it naturally, the way they learn their first language.

Toddler Community

18–36 months

幼儿班

A small, unhurried room where our youngest learn to dress themselves, set a snack table, and find words for their feelings — in Mandarin and English songs, stories, and everyday care.

  • Practical life: pouring, washing hands, caring for plants
  • Language through songs, rhymes, and naming real objects
  • Gross-motor play indoors and in our garden
  • Gentle toileting support and consistent nap routines

Primary Classroom

3–5 years

幼儿园班

A mixed-age classroom where children choose meaningful work, build concentration, and grow into confident Mandarin speakers — tracing characters, counting with golden beads, and leading lunch preparations.

  • Montessori math, language, sensorial, and cultural studies
  • Chinese characters, brush painting, and seasonal festivals
  • Older children mentor younger ones in a three-year cycle
  • Daily outdoor time and family-style lunch

Our approach

Like a dandelion seed: light, curious, ready to grow

We named our school after the dandelion — 蒲公英 — because children are a little like its seeds. Given gentle conditions and room to drift, they find their own way and take root.

Our classrooms follow Dr. Maria Montessori’s method: mixed ages, hands-on materials, and long stretches of uninterrupted time. Our teachers speak Mandarin throughout the day, so the language becomes part of how children play, eat, and make friends — not a subject to study.

Follow the child
Teachers observe closely and offer the next lesson when a child is ready, not when a chart says so.
Language by living it
Mandarin is heard during snack, songs, conflict resolution, and garden walks — the natural way young children learn.
Real work, real care
Glass cups, child-sized tools, and living plants teach responsibility and quiet confidence.
Rooted in community
We celebrate Lunar New Year, Mid-Autumn, and our Northern Liberties neighbors with families of every background.
“The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist.’”
— Maria Montessori
